The living habits of the yellow-margined closed-shell turtle

Huang Yuanguan The living habits of the yellow-margined shell turtle
The yellow-margined shell turtle (certain introduction)

The activity temperature of the yellow-margined shell turtle during the day: 22~ 26 degrees at night: 19 to 24 degrees

Under the premise of artificial breeding, when the temperature reaches 18 to 22 degrees Celsius in April to May and September to November, the turtles will move less day and night, and move more around noon. The temperature is 25-34C from June to August every year. Turtles mainly move at night, early morning or dusk, and hide in caves, trees or sand during the day. If it rains, they often go outside the cave to get wet. From December to January to March of the following year, it is the hibernation period of turtles. When the temperature is 19°C, the turtle stops eating; when the temperature drops to about 10°C, the turtle enters hibernation. When hibernating, it likes to hide in holes, piles of branches or under a thick layer of withered grass, mostly in sunny and leeward places. When the temperature reaches 13℃, the turtle wakes up again.

Every year in early November, due to the drop in temperature, turtles gradually enter hibernation. It is an easy-to-raise species that novices can try. If raised in a mainland environment, if there is enough space, a larger water container can be built. There should be cooler and warmer locations on the mainland. They can withstand short periods of severe cold, but are not meant to be exposed to temperatures below 12C for long periods of time.

Huang Yuan is terrestrial, but it also needs to be placed in shallow water in the breeding environment for drinking, playing in water and soaking. Larvae prefer aquatic habitats. Huangyuan is located further north than Anbu, often in the Gaoping area (not cold in the serious sense), so it is inevitable to get enough sunbathing to increase body temperature. It is necessary to provide high-quality calcium sources, such as: cuttlefish bones, crushed oyster shells, cooked or crushed eggshells. If the weather is suitable, they can be raised outdoors. Many owners allow their turtles to hibernate every year, but this is occasionally possible in some cold areas.
