Golden Retriever
Peaceful death, as the name suggests, is a painless death. When a dog suffers from an incurable disease and endures pain that cannot be controlled by medicine, the owner will generally cooperate with the veterinarian to perform a safe death for the dog. However, many owners said that after witnessing the whole process of peaceful death, they found that peaceful death was not peaceful.
There are three ways to die peacefully:
Potassium chloride method | 10% potassium chloride injection is injected intravenously immediately at 0.3-0.5 ml per kilogram of body weight. |
Pentobarbital sodium method | Inject immediately intravenously at 15 ml per kilogram of body weight or 75 mg per kilogram of body weight. |
Drum and magnesium sulfate method | 40% Magnesium sulfate solution is injected intravenously quickly at 1 ml per kilogram of body weight. |
Currently, the first method is most commonly used in domestic pet hospitals. There is a lot of controversy about this method. The principle of death by potassium chloride is that the injection of potassium chloride causes instantaneous hyperkalemia, which will cause conduction failure of the heart, weaken the interrupting force, and eventually suppress the myocardium and cause the heart to stop beating. Although a tranquilizer or anesthetic is injected before potassium chloride is injected, when the anesthetic dose is insufficient or unable to work, the dog will experience a painful sacrifice process, because the potassium chloride will bring about a strong burning sensation. The dog may also experience general muscle stiffness for a period of time./p>
In order to allow dogs to die truly and safely, the second method is generally recommended overseas - the sodium pentobarbital method. Sodium pentobarbital is widely used in animal anesthesia experiments. After being injected with sodium pentobarbital, animals will quickly become drowsy and be anesthetized. When used in large doses, the animals' breathing will be suppressed, and eventually the animals will die due to respiratory paralysis. Injecting sodium pentobarbital does not cause obvious pain to dogs, so many organizations and owners will use this method.
The drum and magnesium sulfate method is another method that will not cause the dog to resist and be sacrificed quickly. The principle is that magnesium ions have the effect of suppressing the core nervous system, causing loss of consciousness and directly suppressing the respiratory and blood vessel dredging core of the medulla oblongata. At the same time, it also has the effect of blocking the conduction at the junction of outdated nerves and skeletal muscles and slowing down skeletal muscles. .
When you need to perform a safe death for your dog, you must communicate with the veterinarian on all details to avoid the situation where the dog dies in extreme pain.
