In unfortunate news, Abhishek Makwana, a writer for the popular long-running TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah died by suicide. Relatives of the late writer claimed that he was the victim of cyber fraud and blackmail.

Makwana was reportedly found hanged in his Mumbai apartment on 27 November. A suicide note was found that mentioned financial problems. Family members have reportedly claimed that they have been receiving threatening phone calls from people demanding that they repay the loan Abhishek had allegedly taken. His brother Jenis said that he became aware of the financial problems only after Abhishek’s death, when he started receiving calls after November 27.

Jenis said she received calls demanding the repayment of the loans from different parts of the country and some even from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Posting this, Jenis checked Makwana’s emails and realized that he had taken loans from “easy loan” apps that charge high interest rates. On further examination, he discovered that they kept sending small amounts without his brother requesting them and then demanding the money along with an interest rate of up to 30%.

Police officers have noted the numbers from which family members have been receiving phone calls and will examine Abhishek Makwana’s bank transactions.
