College Softball: Raiders Split Tournament Day 1 – Brainerd Dispatch

ROCHESTER – The Central Lakes College Raiders split two games in Rochester on Friday, April 1, winning Game 1 over Rochester 8-7 and falling Game 2 10-1 to St. Cloud.

Trailing 7-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Raiders rallied to score one goal in the sixth and five in the bottom of the seventh to beat Rochester 8-7 in Game 1.

Lexy Swanson ripped a solo homer to score the lone run of the sixth inning and make it 7-3.

After Marissa Callahan threw a scoreless top of the seventh, the Raiders got to work to score five and leave Rochester.

Sarah Kossan hit a loaded bases single to make it 7-4, followed by a Brooke Corrigan RBI groundout to make it 7-5.

Addie Sanford tied the game with a two-run single that scored Kossan and Cassidy Zontelli.

Sanford then scored the winning run on a Halle Zupan single.

Callahan took the win in 1.1 relief runs. Victoria Wagner started for the Raiders and pitched 5.2 innings and struck out two.

Rochester was led by Journey Smith who went 4 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Bella Mehrkens hit a home run for Rochester and also took the loss when she failed to wrap up the game in the seventh.

The Raiders end the Rochester tournament on Saturday with games against Bay College and Riverland.
