Cups and crafts to be won at the Coffee Mafia Makers Market

On Wednesday, ten performers will take a seat in the newly launched Coffee Mafia to give the public the opportunity to peruse a variety of locally made goods while enjoying an evening coffee.

The first Coffee Mafia Makers’ Market is scheduled for Wednesday, September 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is the first event the store will host since the change of ownership and renaming of its old name Mama Mocha in June.

Ian Oriol, owner of Coffee Mafia and freelance artist, said he wanted to make it his first event under the new name after selling products in other similar markets. Now a business owner, he said he felt compelled to run his own market.

“This is the first time that we have done something market type where we invite a group of designers to come and try to introduce their designs to people,” he said.

The 10 artists booked for the first market are looking to sell jewelry, stickers, knit rainbows, prints, and other crafts, with Oriol among them with his crafts for sale.

“I want to give artists a platform to sell their stuff, but I’m also excited because this is the first time I’m going to sell my own stuff since the pandemic. [began]”said Oriol.

Oriol describes his art as “kitschy, cheeky and a bit in your face”.

To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, Oriol said Coffee Mafia will take security measures and the store is asking customers to wear masks throughout the event.
