Imran foresees ‘Sri Lanka-like crisis’: Pakistan

LAYYAH/BHAKKAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday warned of a “Sri Lanka-like crisis” in Pakistan if authorities fail to organize transparent elections in Punjab.

Imran Khan was on his way to a large public gathering here in connection with the election campaign for the upcoming Punjab secondary polls.

“I want to give a message to the power matrix that they are peaceful people. They take to the streets to save the country. In case free and fair elections are not organized, the country would witness a crisis similar to that of Sri Lanka. If our country sees a situation similar to Sri Lanka, then no one can control it.”

He called on the concerned authorities to act responsibly to avoid creating such a crisis in the country by organizing transparent elections in Punjab. “This will be his first test on July 17 that will measure the support of the nation.”

While censuring the current government, Imran Khan said: “Not even an enemy can destroy our stabilizing economy the way these rulers did. Remittances are also declining due to these rulers. These rulers are leading the country into a crisis similar to that of Sri Lanka.”

He added that in Sri Lanka, nationals attacked the presidential palace and the Sri Lankan president was detained at the airport as he tried to flee abroad. “Sri Lanka’s ruler was also like Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari, whose residence is in a foreign country,” he alleged.

Imran Khan said that the corrupt rulers were even willing to sell their honor and ideology for money.

He called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to prove himself a true servant of the nation, ‘Khadim-e-Aala’, by restoring oil prices to Rs 150 per litre.

“We had even cut the electricity tariff by Rs5 per unit in addition to cutting gasoline and diesel prices despite continuing the IMF program. We have also distributed health cards to the nation to provide them with health insurance. We disburse easy loans to young people, start low-cost housing schemes and poverty alleviation programs like Ehsaas.”

He went on to say that the elected government had been overthrown by an alleged foreign conspiracy when the economy was stabilizing and the country was making successful progress in all sectors.

He called on the PTI leaders to send 10 brave young men to each polling station during the Punjab by-votes to stop electoral fraud attempts. He asked the nationals not to let the ‘thieves’ win the secondary votes at all costs. Meanwhile, addressing a rally in the Darya Khan area of Bhakkar in connection with the upcoming by-elections in 20 constituencies in Punjab, he said: “We bow to no one except Allah, the Almighty, and only seek the help of the Almighty. ”

He stated that the coalition parties had not come to reduce inflation but to abolish the corruption cases registered against them.

Imran Khan said he has been waging a jihad against them, adding that a “thieves’ government” has been imposed on us, but that we will never accept “American slaves and thieves.” Declaring the upcoming by-elections in the province a “real independence struggle,” he urged people to support him.

The president of the PTI said that people in his party were being threatened through phone calls. They are being threatened with being imprisoned. He called on the youth to defeat the traitors in the by-elections with a door-to-door campaign.

He stated that the parties in the coalition government have been plundering the national wealth and the country for the past 30 years, adding that he has been fighting them for the past 26 years.

“A person who has no ideology and Qibla becomes a traitor,” he said, adding: Jail threats are being given to our people. “They” wanted us to accept the thieves but we will never accept them.

Criticizing the collation government, he said an “American slave” had been appointed Pakistan’s prime minister. He claimed that Shehbaz Sharif is a “thief” and that his son Hamza Shehbaz is an unconstitutional prime minister.

He also lashed out at the PPP and its co-chair Asif Ali Zardari, claiming that Zardari and his aides were sending Sindh money abroad. Without naming PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz, Imran Khan said that a “lying queen” is leading the thieves’ campaign.

Calling Suleman Shehbaz a “bribery specialist”, Imran Khan said that the Panama Papers revealed that Maryam Nawaz has Rs4bn property in posh London.

The PTI leader alleged that they hide the money stolen abroad to avoid the accountability process. He urged the masses to inflict defeat on the thieves to change their own destiny on July 17.—Agencies
