Bhubaneswar, April 11 (IANS) JSW Utkal Steel Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel (NS:) Ltd, on Monday received environmental clearance for the establishment of a new 13.2 million tonnes of crude steel per year integrated steelworks in Odisha.
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change has given its approval to the project, which will generate huge job opportunities in the region and boost the state’s economy, the company said. in a press release.
Capital expenditure for the modern, green and environment-friendly integrated steel plant project is expected to be around Rs 65,000 crore including associated facilities.
Phased works on the project will begin once the Odisha government hands over the land to the company.
“The project is one of the largest in the manufacturing sector in the country and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has granted environmental clearance after successful public hearings,” he said.
The company further stated that JUSL has earmarked budgets for social interventions in the areas of public health, education, skills development, social infrastructure, waste management, environment, drinking water and the empowerment of women.
In addition, based on the environmental impact assessment, the company plans to incur expenditures for environmental protection and mitigation measures, he added.
