The work will be carried out mainly in SGRE’s R&D centers in Spain (Navarre, Vizcaya and Madrid) and in Denmark (Aalborg and Brande). Overall, Siemens Gamesa will allocate up to 45% of total capital expenditure to R&D.
The EIB loan will be used to finance RDI projects, in particular: the development of innovative solutions to optimize the various components of a wind turbine, new applications for turbine maintenance and diagnostic services, and IT applications for the turbine. ‘optimization of processes and production with virtual reality and artificial intelligence.
Siemens Gamesa is a leading supplier of wind turbine solutions and claims to have installed over 107 GW in 75 countries. Over 1,000 Siemens Gamesa Direct Drive offshore wind turbines have been installed in all of the world’s major offshore wind markets. They include the UK, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Taiwan, among others. In addition, Siemens Gamesa said it has received orders for 1,000 additional direct-drive offshore turbines, with installations planned for the above-mentioned markets and new offshore markets including the United States and France.
