YSRCP Red MLA suspension: SC refuses to intervene, asks AP president to consider apologizing

The SC refused to interfere on the suspension issue itself as it was being investigated by Hyderabad HC.

The Supreme Court ordered the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Thursday to consider the apology letter delivered by YSRCP MLA RK Red and take appropriate action on it.

The SC indicated that the letter It should be considered without prejudice, and be thrown out, after Roja’s lawyer argued that no action had been taken.

However, the high court also refused to interfere in the Nagari lawmaker’s own suspension issue, as the case was being investigated by the Hyderabad High Court.

the advice of red argued that the state government denied having received his letter of apology, when it was delivered to them in the court itself, after which the SC asked the state defenders to circulate the letter to the interested parties.

It was in December 2015 that Roja was suspended from the assembly for one year by Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao for obstructing the proceedings of the chamber and for allegedly making disparaging remarks against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and another female MLA.

The objectionable comments were made during a debate about the state’s ‘call money’ scam, which involved private lenders harassing and exploiting borrowers after providing easy loans.

Roja moved the court and argued that the maximum period for which an MLA could be suspended under the relevant rule was until the remaining period of the House session, which was completed on December 22, 2015.

In March 2016, a Hyderabad High Court judge lifted his suspension from the assembly. The clerk of the legislature later challenged the ruling.

In March of this year, the AP Assembly Privileges Committee recommended his suspension for one year, but left the final decision in the hands of the Speaker.

The actress-turned-MLA has also argued that her suspension was arbitrary and done by voice vote.

He has been granted permission to visit the Assembly premises, as his party’s office is located in the complex.
